Too many homes are unnecessarily cold and damp. Past ‘improvements’ have left our Victorian and Edwardian homes covered with inappropriate modern renders and insulation systems that have turned them into mould filled and unhealthy houses.
Traditional buildings need traditional principles.
The general advantages of a wet applied insulating lime render are:

Maintains the moisture balance in the walls and makes then drier

Improves the thermal performance of the walls by c. 70%

Thermal mass retained internally making homes warm in the winter and cool in the summer

Works in harmony with stone / brick and so has an indefinite lifespan if maintained correctly

Doesn’t crack and craze like cement

Allows the walls to ‘breathe’ properly

Preserves the appearance on traditionally rendered buildings, thus enhancing the urban environment

Can be applied to terraces without affecting the gutters and roof lines

Can be applied into window and door reveals in a continuous manner, thus reducing risks of thermal bridging and water ingress

No weak junctions / gaps between insulation boards so insulation is safe from the effects of wind driven rain (important in Wales!)

Radically reduces the risk of mould and damp.

Anti-mould: As well reducing moisture, the material is very alkaline which naturally prohibits mould and algae growth.

As a mineral product the system has excellent fire-retardant qualities. No toxic fumes are produced when exposed to fire.

All the ingredient materials are commonly used as the most efficient filters and cleanser/purifiers.

Carbon sequestration via the use of unique aggregates

Vivus product absorbs CO2 as time progresses, locking in Co2 and removing it from the atmosphere. Vivus renders produce less than 50% CO2 compared to other cement/renders/mortars.

Vivus products are not only able to provide a 100% natural, non-toxic, CO2-reducing product which is fully recyclable

Natural materials only. The mineralised materials are all natural with no VOCs, plastics etc.

Production of the system will be centred in Wales to ensure that the local communities benefit from the training and employment that this system offers.

The Vivus System has a unique manufacturing and application techniques facilitates each render layer being applied the day after the previous. A typical house could be completed in 1 – 2 weeks.

Easily repaired and maintained if accidentally damaged

Non bio-degradable. With the mix using only mineralised or mineral ingredients there is nothing to rot in the long term

With only simple maintenance required to make the system last a lifetime it is a ‘do it right, do it once’ system.
